Investigation Into Officer's Death Concluded

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 24, 2007) - After conducting a thorough investigation into the death of a Canadian officer serving in Kabul, Afghanistan, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) has concluded that his tragic death was a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During the early morning of August 29, Major Raymond Ruckpaul was found suffering from the wound in his living quarters located within the secure compound of the ISAF Headquarters in Kabul. Based on the evidence collected and analyzed by both the CFNIS and the Ontario Officer of the Chief Coroner his death has been ruled a suicide.

The CFNIS is an independent Military Police unit with a mandate to investigate serious and sensitive matters in relation to National Defence property, Departmental employees and Canadian Forces personnel serving in Canada and abroad.
