Investing in Publishing Books in French in Western Canada

Government of Canada supports Les Editions des Plaines

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 25, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding of $18,113 for Les Éditions des Plaines, a publishing house in St. Boniface, Manitoba. The Government of Canada provided this support under the Support for Publishers component of the Canada Book Fund to assist Les Éditions des Plaines in producing, marketing, and distributing books in French in Western Canada.

  • Les Éditions des Plaines has been publishing literary works and school textbooks supporting education in French in Western Canada since 1979.
  • Through the $39.1-million Canada Book Fund, the Department of Canadian Heritage provides annual funding to approximately 300 book publishers and industry organizations in more than 80 Canadian communities.
  • Publishers in Canada generate more than $2 billion in revenues each year and employ around 9,000 Canadians.
