Member of Parliament Maurice Vellacott announces federal funding to the Optimist Club of Saskatoon


SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - May 22, 2014) - Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing $24,225 in funding to the Optimist Club of Saskatoon for its Canada Day activities held in Diefenbaker Park.

Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament (Saskatoon-Wanuskewin), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. The Government of Canada is providing this financial support through the Celebrate Canada Program.

  • The day will feature a variety of displays, entertainment, a flea market, and food from diverse cultural groups. Celebrations will end with a fireworks display.
  • Approximately 30,000 people are expected to participate in the Canada Day activities in Diefenbaker Park.
  • Celebrate Canada is an 11-day celebration that takes place from June 21 to July 1 and includes National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27, and Canada Day on July 1.
