Invitation to the Media: National Celebration of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Campaign

TORONTO, ONTARIO and MONTREAL, QUEBEC and OTTAWA, ONTARIO and GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 17, 2008) -

When: Thursday, October 23, 2008
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Where: Canadian Children's Museum
100 Laurier Street, Gatineau, Quebec

Schoolchildren from Elmwood School in Ottawa and l'Ecole Vieux Verger in Gatineau will celebrate their involvement in the vibrant, long-standing Canadian tradition of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. Dressed in Halloween costumes for this festive gathering, they will officially launch this year's nationwide activities through which hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren across the country will help UNICEF provide an education to children in Malawi and Rwanda.

UNICEF Quebec Ambassador Catherine Brunet and National UNICEF Child Representative Bilaal Rajan will take part in a symbolic Walk for Water with the children, providing them with a first-hand learning experience of having to walk every day to fetch their family's supply of clean water, one of the barriers preventing many African children from attending school.

The media are invited to this unique activity kicking off the 2008 nationwide
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign at 10:00 a.m. on Laurier Street in front of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, followed at 10:30 a.m. in the Canadian Children's Museum by a dialogue among the children and UNICEF youth spokespersons, well-known child actor Catherine Brunet and award-winning child activist Bilaal Rajan.

This Halloween, give children in Malawi and Rwanda an education!
