IODA Partners With BounDEE, Creating Strong Mobile Presence in Japan

IODA's Independent Labels and Artists Now Have Access to More Than 200 Music Retailers and Mobile Partners in Japan; IODA to Distribute BounDEE's Catalog of Music Worldwide

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - November 17, 2008) - IODA, the global leader in digital distribution, marketing, and technology solutions for the independent music and film industry, today announced a worldwide partnership with BounDEE, Japan's largest distributor of independent music. Through BounDEE's relationship with more than 200 online music and mobile stores, IODA's catalog of independent artists will be able to grow their digital and physical sales in Japan. As part of the partnership, IODA will also represent BounDEE's independent artists and labels worldwide.

The partnership with BounDEE expands IODA's reach in Japan, which currently includes relationships with several Japanese digital retailers including iTunes Japan. On the content side, IODA currently represents hundreds of Japanese independent labels as well as Japanese major labels such as Pony Canyon and Victor Entertainment to distribute select releases internationally.

Digital music for mobile devices comprises 91 percent of the digital music market in Japan (IFPI). Tokyo-based BounDEE's strong relationships with mobile music retailers, including mobile music giant Label Mobile, provide important access and growth opportunities for IODA clients. BounDEE will also make its physical distribution and marketing services available to IODA clients seeking to more aggressively grow their business in the region.

"Music fans in Japan are passionate about music discovery and are hungry for increased exposure to independent artists from around the world," said Hideaki Shimizu, CEO of BounDEE. "We look forward to leveraging the strength of IODA's music catalog to expose Japanese fans to more variety. Our relationships in the mobile market will also help IODA's labels get access to the number one way digital music is consumed in Japan."

BounDEE officially kicked-off the new partnership with the release of USA for Africa's "We Are The World" track to Label Mobile and other digital stores in Japan. "We Are The World," the inspirational anthem from the 1980s, has long been a top seller in Japan with the recently released digital music video holding the number one spot on iTunes for over five weeks this fall. The release of "We Are The World" marks the first time this track will be available on mobile phones in Japan. Last month, a beta release of Brooklyn, New York-based IODA artist Chairlift to select digital retailers in Japan saw its track "Bruises" become a top five download on Label Mobile's international chart. BounDEE also recently made the track available at music.jp and dwango, two other dominant mobile retailers in the region.

"The impact of being in Apple's iPod Nano commercial has been amazing for Chairlift," said Kay Quartararo, founder of Kanine Records, Chairlift's label. "To make the most of the fan interest generated around the world we worked with IODA to make the song available in as many places and in as many countries as possible. Within one week of approving the release to Japan the 'Bruises' track was live on the biggest digital mobile retailer in Japan and hit top five on the chart. It's just another reminder of the power of digital for the independent artist. We look forward to working with IODA and BounDEE in strong partnership as we grow Chairlift's presence in Japan."

Through IODA's global distribution network, BounDEE will now have virtual shelf space at digital retailers, mobile outlets and subscription services worldwide. The first independent artist released by IODA was Genki Rockets, a band featuring a virtual vocalist that has been a huge sensation in Japan.

Commenting on IODA's worldwide distribution network, Shimizu from BounDEE said, "As we evaluated the best path to follow in expanding global distribution opportunities for our labels and artists we got to know IODA's business quite well. We were impressed with the quality of IODA's catalog, its presence in all the major music markets, and the proprietary technology that drives its business. Collaborating with IODA is a clear win for our rightsholders and for music fans in Japan."

In addition to distribution, BounDEE will leverage Promonet, IODA's groundbreaking digital marketing platform to drive visibility and sales worldwide. Promonet is used by thousands of digital retailers, music websites, social networks, bloggers, podcasters and Internet radio programmers, around the world. Via Promonet, BounDEE's labels can easily market to these hard-to-reach yet highly valuable tastemakers, both in Japan and abroad.

"BounDEE's intimate knowledge of the mobile music market in Japan, and its strong partnerships in the mobile arena will be a powerful asset to our labels. With mobile companies dominating the digital music business in Japan, this is a critical partnership for us, and we expect it to open the market up for our rightsholders," said Kevin Arnold, CEO and founder of IODA. "After seeing the mobile success of Chairlift we are even more excited about the opportunities our partnership with BounDEE will create for our clients. Just as importantly, we see the potential to impact the global independent music scene by bringing the cutting-edge music coming out of Japan to a worldwide audience."

The announcement comes on the heels of IODA being named a Rising Star in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 program for Silicon Valley. The Rising Star award is a special designation for fast-growth companies with rankings based on revenue growth over three years (2005-2007). IODA recorded three-year revenue growth of 1,258 percent over that time period.
