Iotron Industries Meets Growing Demand for Medical Device Sterilization using Electron Beam Irradiation Technology

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 5, 2013) - The medical device industry is growing rapidly as an aging global population and climbing societal risk factors create demand for healthcare services. It is estimated that the global medical device industry will be worth $288 billion by 2015, up from $164 billion in 2010.

These projected revenues pose huge opportunities for medical devices suppliers, however, entry into the marketplace is complex. Assurance that devices have been properly sterilized is determined through rigid regulations and standards. Electron Beam sterilization is increasingly being successfully used commercially for sterilizing a wide variety of medical products.

Iotron Industries Inc. own the IMPELA electron-beam technology, servicing the medical device industry for over 20 years throughout North America. Up to this point, most disposable medical products are sterilized with Ethelyne Oxide gas, or Gamma rays. Various difficulties with these methods have led to increased interest and utilization of Electron Beam sterilization.

Irradiation as a more favourable method of sterilization is on the rise due to its competitive pricing, ability to provide "just in time" service, no quarantine delays and compatibility with many of the most commonly sterilized medical equipment, packaging, and devices. In addition to preventing illness, reducing medical processing costs, the electron beam is an environmentally friendly process harnessing electricity as its sole power source. Unlike the other alternatives, Electron Beam processing does not produce or utilize any hazardous or radioactive materials.

According to Tino Pereira, CEO of Iotron Industries Inc., "IMPELA electron-beam technology prevents the spread of harmful microorganisms as the beam penetrates the device completely to ensure that every surface on the outside, as well as the inside of the device, is sterile."

Electron beam sterilization inactivates microorganisms present by damaging the DNA. Iotron Industries Inc. commonly sterilizes medical supplies, surgical equipment, dental equipment, cardiovascular and orthopedic devices,

With 1,000 firms manufacturing medical devices across Canada, employing 25,000 and generating $2.3 billion in exports, the medical industry is valuable to our economy. Iotron Industries Inc. assists these suppliers in safeguarding their product, protecting their revenue streams, client base and the ultimately, the patient.
