iovation Listed in Gartner's Mobile, Cloud and Application Security Hype Cycle Reports

iovation Listed in Three Distinct Categories, Fraud Detection, Identity-Proofing Services and Mobile Platform Health Checks Which Have a Benefit Rating of "High"

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - Sep 9, 2016) - iovation, the provider of device intelligence for authentication and fraud prevention, today announced that it has been listed in three separate Gartner Hype Cycle reports: "Hype Cycle for Application Security, 20161," "Hype Cycle for Cloud Security, 20162" and "Hype Cycle for Mobile Security, 20163." Gartner Hype Cycles provide a graphic representation of the maturity and adoption of technologies and applications, and how they are potentially relevant to solving real business problems and addressing new opportunities.

Within each report, iovation was included in a category with a Benefit Rating of "High." Gartner defines High Benefit Rating as "enables new ways of performing horizontal or vertical processes that will result in significantly increased revenue or cost savings for an enterprise."

"We believe being identified by one of the world's leading information technology research and advisory companies as a fraud prevention and security vendor in areas where enterprises should be investing today is a huge honor," said iovation CTO Scott Waddell. "We feel this is great validation that using devices for authentication is the ideal way to enhance the user experience and security posture."

In the reports, Gartner points out how alternatives to traditional passwords are needed to authenticate customers. For example, in the Hype Cycle for Application Security, Gartner writes, "Assume the criminals will compromise authentication credentials, such as passwords, and methods, such as use of one-time passwords generated on a dedicated token. Use a layered fraud prevention approach, which includes using fraud detection to flag suspect activity within your monitored applications." And in the Hype Cycle for Mobile Security, Gartner writes, "An indicator of compromise should not be used to abort the operation of the app, but to raise the risk level and perhaps trigger an authentication challenge sent to the user."

iovation's Customer Authentication service allows consumers with recognized "known good devices" to have instant passwordless access to low-risk sections of their online accounts -- like account balances, shopping records and activity histories. It can also provide real-time risk assessments -- highlighting devices potentially tampered with, using anonymizers and appearing with high-risk anomalies.
