Iowa City Public Library Now Offers Download Audiobooks and Video

Access Best-Selling Titles and Local Content Anywhere, Anytime

IOWA CITY, IA--(Marketwire - August 27, 2007) - The Iowa City Public Library now offers best-selling titles and locally produced videos for download at http://overdrive.icpl.org. Using a library card, ICPL patrons who live in Iowa City, rural Johnson County, Hills and University Heights can check out and download audiobooks and videos from their home computers 24/7, transfer titles to supported portable devices, and burn select audio titles to CD.

To access the ICPL eMedia collection, provided by OverDrive, Inc., patrons can visit http://overdrive.icpl.org and install the free software, OverDrive Media Console, which manages the playback of audiobooks and videos on Windows operating systems. After the seven-day loan period, digital titles automatically expire so patrons never have to worry about accruing late fees.

The eMedia Collection offers titles for children, teens and adults, including best-sellers from authors like James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Christopher Paolini and Meg Cabot. Patrons can check out classics such as "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell and hot titles like "Lean Mean Thirteen" by Janet Evanovich to enjoy at home or on the go. In addition to hundreds of audiobooks, all library patrons with a valid library card, regardless of where they live, can also download videos featuring the late Irving Weber, Iowa City's official historian, who tours the city and recalls the early days of Iowa City's bridges and ferries, cemeteries, parks and railroad system.

"We are delighted to bring this type of service to our patrons. It is very convenient because it offers access to our digital collection from anywhere in the world," said Susan Craig, ICPL Director. "Patrons will be happy with the variety of selection, and the Irving Weber videos are a wonderful way to learn about the local history of Iowa City."
