iPass Secures Patent for Distribution Tool That Manages All Customer Profiles

Service Customization Method Allows Centralized Modification of iPass Service Settings and Automated Distribution to End User Populations

REDWOOD SHORES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 2, 2007 -- iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS) announced it has been granted a new patent (US Patent 7,191,239) for the service customization and configuration methods used within its service platform that help enterprise customers to implement policy-based connectivity management in a centralized, simple and scalable manner.

With a global network consisting of more than 76,000 hotspots in 68 countries, and over 3,000 business customers, including more than 350 companies in the Forbes Global 2000, iPass is the leader in providing software and services that unify the management of remote and mobile connectivity and devices. iPass solutions help high-value workers be more productive wherever they go while allowing their companies to better control costs, simplify management and mitigate their security risks.

"This invention validates our commitment to not only providing the industry's most comprehensive connectivity options to the end user, but also the best management experience for IT," said Barbara Nelson, Vice President, Architecture and Design, iPass. "The iPass technology platform gives customers the best of both worlds -- IT can choose which service options they want to control and those they want to leave for users to select, have these policies pushed out to their user base automatically, and modify policies without having to re-install the iPass software on the user's device. This unique technology creates a stable and more uniform administrative environment."

Titled "A method and system to customize and update a network connection application for distribution to multiple end users," this seventh US patent for iPass automates end user updates such as layout, content, etc. iPass customers can now enable and disable individual features and migrate to newer versions of the client without a complex rollout.

About the iPass Service Customization

When an enterprise signs up for the iPass service, they select various options they want either enabled or disabled for their users. There are well over 100 different configurable options for the iPass Mobile Office service, including selections for available connectivity choices, networking options, security settings, integration with third-party security products, and use of particular wireless protocols.

iPass allows the customer to set these options when creating a new profile, and to modify these options as needed to change existing profiles. The changed settings are then available to be automatically pushed to end users the next time they connect.
