REDWOOD SHORES, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 10, 2014) - iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), a leading provider of mobile services for enterprises and telecom service providers, Deutsche Telekom, one of the world's leading integrated telecommunications companies, and global aviation group, Lufthansa, today announced that iPass Open Mobile subscribers will be able to access broadband in-flight Wi-Fi services aboard Lufthansa aircrafts. This agreement sees the footprint of the iPass Open Mobile Network extended to include hotspots in over 100 planes in Lufthansa's fleet.
Enabled through iPass' relationship with Deutsche Telekom, iPass users can access the service on nearly every Lufthansa long-haul flight. The service is easy to use: iPass customers can connect via their iPass Open Mobile client, needing only to enter their usual log-in details. Business users are able to comply with VPN and endpoint security policies while in the air, while enterprises benefit from simplified billing by avoiding a separate in-flight Wi-Fi access charge.
"We are delighted to be working with Lufthansa and Deutsche Telekom to provide our subscribers with an extended hotspot footprint. Now iPass Open Mobile subscribers not only have access to the world's largest commercial Wi-Fi network on land, but also in the air, with the biggest Wi-Fi enabled air fleet in the world," commented Marcio Avillez - VP Network Services & Carrier Product Development, iPass. "We know that there is significant demand for in-flight Wi-Fi services to help business travelers stay connected and productive. By working with Lufthansa and Deutsche Telekom, we can help our customers to work securely and productively throughout their business trips."
"Deutsche Telekom is strengthening its position as a leading HotSpot provider offering innovative Wi-Fi access in more than 55.000 places such as cafés, hotels, restaurants but also including cars, trains, airports and aircraft. We are excited to have realized another step towards our vision of becoming the leading European telecommunications company by enabling very easy and convenient, smart client based Wi-Fi access in the sky together with our partners," commented Antje Williams, Head of In-Flight at Deutsche Telekom.
