IR magazine Announces Winners of Canada Investor Relations Awards

Top-Performing Investor Relations Teams Celebrated at Annual Gala

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 3, 2011) - IR magazine, the only global publication dealing with the interfacing of companies and their shareholders, is excited to announce the winners of its annual investor relations awards in Canada. At the IR Magazine Canada Awards 2011, 25 awards were distributed to recognize the leading investor relations teams in important areas such as earnings calls, corporate governance and crisis management. Executives and their IR teams were celebrated for demonstrating the key competencies and actions that result in enhanced transparency and shareholder communication.

Winners of the IR Magazine Canada Awards 2011 were determined through a rigorous research and selection process managed by XbInsight, IR magazine's research arm. Surveys and interviews with analysts and investors provided the information necessary for the ultimate selection of the winners in each category.

XBInsight finds in a new survey that investor relations professionals are under increased pressure to demonstrate the benefits of their activities. With budgets constrained – a lasting legacy of the financial crisis – IR officers are under greater scrutiny and, as a result, the IR vendor marketplace has become increasingly competitive.

In its latest report, Global survey and team structure, available exclusively to professional subscribers to IR magazine, XBInsight examines the factors affecting the IR community based on 205 surveys conducted with senior IR professionals.

The awards event was held in association with The Globe and Mail and was co-sponsored by Broadridge, Business Wire, Canadian Stock Transfer Company, Capital IQ, A Standard & Poor's Business, CCR Solutions, CDS, CIRI, CNW, Ipreo, Laurel Hill Advisory Group, Marketwire, NASDAQ OMX, NYSE Euronext, OnDemandIR, OTCQX, Phoenix Advisory Partners, The Works Design Communications and TMX Group.

A full list of winners by category is provided below.

Janet Dignan, CEO, Cross Border Ltd

'The past few years have been challenging for investor relations professionals. The community and its best practices have been fundamentally reshaped by the financial crisis of 2008, and what we are seeing now are the implications of this. The IR professionals we have recognized at the IR Magazine Canada Awards this year have demonstrated the leading thinking and practices that will define the IR community well into the future.'

Clare Harrison, research editor, IR magazine

'The winners of this year's IR Magazine Canada Awards reflect the experience and insights of the people best equipped to evaluate investor relations teams: the investors and analysts. This view from the community with which IR departments speak provides the clearest and most genuine sense of what it takes to run IR effectively.'
