IRD Comments on Passage of US Highway Reauthorization Bill

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 11, 2005) - International Road Dynamics Inc. (IRD) commented today on the recent passing in the United States of a highway and transit reauthorization bill called The "Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act-A Legacy for Users" (SAFETEA-LU). The bill was signed by President Bush on August 10th, 2005 in a ceremony in Montgomery, Illinois.

The new act sets total surface transportation contract authority at an historic high of $295 billion, with guaranteed spending authority of $286.4 billion over the next six years (2004-2009), a 38% increase in guaranteed spending over the previous six-year bill that expired in September of 2003. Although passage of the bill is 23 months late, the bill was passed with overwhelming support in the House (passing in a 412 to 8 vote), and Senate (passing in a 91 to 4 vote). All major industry associations, and State governments are hailing the passage of the bill as a significant milestone in the continued investment and management of the U.S. Interstate highway system.

Besides providing core funding for all modes of transportation construction and maintenance, the highway bill also provides significant funding for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) with the intend of reducing congestion, and improving highway safety. IRD is a global leader in the provision of ITS systems and solutions with an established market presence and a significant installed base of its weigh-in-motion and other technologies in the United States.

Mr. Terry Bergan, President of IRD noted, "With the passage of this bill, we are confident that many of the projects that have been delayed or postponed over the last two years will now proceed on a fast track. We have an established presence in the US market, and look forward to continuing the deployment of our industry-leading solutions going forward."
