Ireland's Green Bag Company Builds Out US Infrastructure as Sales of Sustainability Products Grow

LIMERICK, IRELAND and RALEIGH, NC--(Marketwire - Sep 21, 2011) - Ireland's Green Bag Company (Green Bag), a pioneer of the now ubiquitous recyclable bag, today announced that it is staffing up in the US. The company recently appointed a product developer in San Francisco and is actively recruiting in other US locations. Green Bag was established more than a decade ago in Australia. Last year they relocated operations to Ireland for greater proximity to the European and US markets. Since then, sales have steadily grown as the practice of replacing plastic with reusable bags became the norm. The US alone accounts for more than 65 percent of Green Bag's sales. In just the last year, sales in this market have soared by 16 percent. The company intends to boost further growth by diversifying beyond bags and into new products that appeal to an increasingly eco-conscious public.

The news was announced today during an Enterprise Ireland-supported trade mission to North Carolina led by Ireland's Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton. Enterprise Ireland is the government organization responsible for the development and growth of Irish businesses in world markets.

Green Bag began with a practical mission: to design and develop commercial solutions for social problems. In its early days, this meant providing an alternative for single-use plastic bags. The timing was good. Individuals and communities were becoming more eco-aware. Retail outlets began to encourage and reward the use of recyclable bags. Even cities like San Francisco issued a ban against the use of plastic bags. Green Bag stepped in with an array of attractive multi-purpose reusable bags in a variety of shapes, styles, fabrics and designs that became instant winners. Today the customer-focused company is eyeing new applications for its sustainability expertise. Soon customers can expect to find products like medical garments, environmentally-friendly food packaging, and high-visibility security vests standing out on the company's online shelves.

"We're passionate about providing modern solutions to environmental or social needs," said Green Bag's San Francisco-based Marketing Manager and Product Developer, Patricia Aragoni. "For more than a decade, our company has played a leading role in the sustainability movement by bringing fresh, fun and practical products to market. Our portfolio is broad. It includes goods that protect doctors and patients, and popular products that keep children, public workers and communities safe. We also design strategies that help companies meet their waste-management objectives, and we've pioneered unique community partnership programs. We're excited to grow our presence in the US by continuing to provide high-quality products and services that are relevant and useful."
