Ireland's Last Mile Broadband Purchases Airspan's WiMAX Equipment and Expands WipLL Network

BOCA RATON, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 21, 2006 -- In November 2004, Airspan Networks (NASDAQ: AIRN) announced the signing of an agreement with Last Mile Broadband of Athlone, Ireland, for deliveries of Airspan's WipLL and 802.16a-based AS4030 products.

More than 50 WipLL base stations today give Last Mile Broadband the capacity to connect up to 6,000 subscribers in the Irish Midlands area with high-speed broadband Internet services in the 3.7GHz frequency band.

Today, Airspan is pleased to announce that Last Mile Broadband has placed new orders for additional WipLL base station and CPE equipment, and has also agreed to purchase 35 AS.MAX base stations and more than 1,000 ProST CPE devices that will operate in the 3.6-3.8GHz FDD and 5.8GHz frequency bands. Last Mile Broadband will use this equipment to launch new higher speed data and VoIP services.

Last Mile Broadband has been in business since 2002, building and operating wireless broadband networks to serve business and residential customers in the Midlands of Ireland, an area that includes all of counties Westmeath, Offaly, Roscommon, Longford and parts of the surrounding counties. With 15 licenses to operate fixed wireless networks in the region, Last Mile Broadband has been successful in attracting Group Broadband Scheme funding from the Irish government to finance some of its expansion. The company currently serves a rapidly expanding customer base across a large geographical area with its wireless networks.

John Gibbons, Director of Last Mile Broadband, commented: "We first introduced Airspan's WipLL products into our network in January 2004. WipLL gave us the ability to offer our customers a wide range of data services on a system that was simple to deploy and grow and easy to manage with its comprehensive management system. After a thorough evaluation of various WiMAX systems, we are now very pleased to have chosen Airspan's WiMAX solution for the continued expansion of our broadband wireless network. The Airspan AS.MAX products use the same architecture as WipLL, which has shown itself to be very cost-effective, field-proven and reliable in three years of operation. We look forward to a similar experience with AS.MAX."

Anders Rendahl, Airspan's Vice President Sales for Europe, added: "We are delighted that Last Mile Broadband has decided to continue to grow its network using the latest Airspan technology. Our AS.MAX products are well suited to Last Mile's network requirements. Their modularity is ideal for rural deployments, and they permit 'pay as you grow' deployment to match the cash flows of our customers. The ProST enables long-range links with very low fault tolerances in harsh physical environments like those in the Last Mile Broadband service area."
