Irish Aviation Authority Selects Era for Dublin Airport

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 20, 2007 -- After evaluating a number of market-leading solutions, Dublin has selected Era's surface surveillance solution, MSS. Dublin joins a growing list of the world's leading airports and ANSPs that depend on MSS by Era technology, such as Copenhagen, Munich, Singapore, Madrid and Beijing.

Dublin, already one of Europe's busiest and most popular airports, is seeing rapid growth of their operations and passenger traffic. To manage this growth, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has invested over 100 million euros for new and improved infrastructure in recent years. The combination of growing operations and new infrastructure investment makes comprehensive surface surveillance a critical need.

Dublin's investment has yielded a new terminal and piers with additional apron space, which requires an accurate and comprehensive surveillance solution. With the cost and limitations of traditional radar, the IAA determined that a multilateration surveillance solution would provide the best solution. Specifically, the IAA needed a multilateration surveillance solution that would seamlessly support its A-SMGCS solution in the same manner as existing Surface Management Radar (SMR). Dublin has additional infrastructure plans, including parallel runways, so the flexibility of a multilateration solution was an important consideration for future growth.

The IAA awarded the prime contract to HITT to implement a network of MSS by Era sensors to support their surface management program goals.

"Era is an internationally recognized solution that offers proven performance in the A-SMGCS community," said Derek Slater, Irish Aviation Authority, ATM Specialist. "MSS by Era certainly met our technical performance specifications and their reputation for reliability is well-known."

Era's multilateration provides higher accuracy, greater update rates, better coverage and improved reliability when compared to conventional radar, and will do so at a much lower initial cost and with lower annual maintenance costs.

"Dublin was an important win for the Era team and we are proud to be working with the Irish Aviation Authority," said Dave Ellison, President & CEO of Era Corporation. "Our customers like Dublin are dealing with the challenges of growth, and Era is committed to supporting and enabling their continued success."

Recently, MSS by Era technology was recognized by Jane's Information Group, when they presented Era with the prestigious Development Award at the ATC Maastricht Awards ceremony. The award recognizes Era's achievement in wide area multilateration, specifically for their deployment in Ostrava, Czech Republic for the Czech ANS.
