The world's first inflatable car booster seat, developed by Irish entrepreneur Grainne Kelly, has received international acclaim at the Kind & Jugend exhibition, the world's leading trade fair for baby and toddlers' outfitting products.

Called 'BubbleBum' this is the second major award this year for the unique car seat, which also recently achieved a bronze award in Practical Parenting Magazine's 10/11 Awards, "as validation," said the judges, "of the product's great quality, usability and value."

At the Kind & Jugend exhibition, in Cologne, Germany, producers from around the world come to present their new ranges each year and Grainne's product BubbleBum made it through to the last five finalists in the Innovation Awards, World of Travelling Baby (children's car seats) category; Grainne's was the only company with a backless child seat to have been recognized in the category.

"I am absolutely thrilled," said Grainne. "This exhibition sets the trends for the coming year and the Innovation Awards are extremely prestigious. This year the number of products submitted for consideration rose to a total of 213 so there was plenty of competition for the coveted trophies."

Derry entrepreneur Grainne developed BubbleBum in response to her frustration and experience as both a mother of two young children and a travel agent. Designed to offer a lightweight and highly portable solution for parents and adults who transport children in their cars, BubbleBum has been approved under United Nations ECE Regulations R44/04 for safety for both groups 2 and 3.

Originally launched to great success in the UK and Ireland, Grainne has taken her product to the European and American market where it has been widely received.

Recognised as the perfect event for intensifying business activities and opening up new markets, the Cologne trade fair provides good opportunities for sales on foreign markets, and is an ideal platform for making new business contacts.

"I created the BubbleBum as there was no solution on the market to allow parents to have the correct child restraint available for their child in every situation. Every child is important and deserves to be safe on every journey," said Grainne. "Modern families do a lot of travelling in cars, coaches and taxis, and bulky, heavy booster seats just aren't practical to carry around even for one child, never mind if you have two or three.

"BubbleBum has been designed to be small, light, practical and so easy to use that it's perfect even for quick taxi journeys. Plus it looks good, so kids don't mind carrying it around in their rucksacks or schoolbags."

Aimed at kids aged between 3-11, the BubbleBum seat deflates and folds flat so that kids or mums can carry it in rucksacks or handbags, making it perfect for holidays, rental cars, taxis, coach journeys, school trips or car pooling.
