Irving A. Backman and The DATT Group Donate Hydroponic Green Machine™ to City of Tuskegee; Proclamation Issued for Initiating Sustainability Programs Providing Food and Employment in Underserved Communities

TUSKEGEE, AL and DEDHAM, MA--(Marketwired - Sep 23, 2015) -  Irving A. Backman, internationally renowned benefactor of sustainability causes, champion of environmentally friendly technologies and alternative energy, and leader of the DATT Group, was officially recognized by the City of Tuskegee for contributions to sustainability programs combatting climate change and Global Warming. A proclamation in Mr. Backman's honor was presented by the Tuskegee City Council.

The event in Tuskegee continues the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King's famous "I have a Dream..." speech delivered in Washington, DC 50 years ago. It is observed today by Mr. Backman's Dream to provide low-cost, healthy food and employment in underserved communities.

Addressing the challenges of sustainability, Mr. Backman said, "Are we dreaming? Can small urban communities introduce enough innovative technology to make a difference? Naysayers have forgotten Selma, Alabama and Tuskegee, Alabama, names embedded in our history as places where important change took hold that affects us today. Our efforts at providing solutions -- not slogans -- will make today's dream a reality."

Dr. Gerald Austin, founder of National Institute for Environmental Sustainability and Training (NIEST) and member of the IAB DATT Group, said, "Mr. Backman is most worthy of the proclamation bestowed upon him by the City of Tuskegee. He was inspirational in the establishment of NIEST, existing to promote green education, food, jobs and energy in urban and rural communities."

For almost four decades, Mr. Backman continues to lead a team of scientists, developers, entrepreneurs and businessmen dedicating their intellectual resources and skills to the advancement of Earth-friendly technologies relating to sustainability. A member of the DATT Group, Acopia Harvest International of Central Falls, RI, is donating a unique hydroponic Green Machine™ to TULIP, a Tuskegee community organization, planting the seeds of sustainability programs.

According to Amy Chauvin, Director, Acopia Harvest International, operating "Project Sprout," developing and manufacturing state-of-the-art Green Machine™ hydroponic systems. "We specialize in healthy lifestyles, and teach how to grow nutritious, leafy vegetables indoors, year round in the office, at school and at home, or for new commercial enterprise. Through education on food production and food safety, technology becomes the answer to poverty stricken developing countries, providing increased employment and mending the world's food and unemployment problems."
