ISES Vancouver Supports Uptake of Sustainable Practices by British Columbia's Event Industry

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2012) - The Vancouver Chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES Vancouver) is proud to formally launch its sustainability commitment under the banner of ISES Cares.

Over the past few months, ISES Vancouver has carefully considered what sustainability means to the organization and its membership. As an industry association, ISES Vancouver recognizes that it has the responsibility to support its members in producing events that have positive environmental, social, and economic impacts. Through its newly founded sustainability initiatives, ISES Vancouver will provide members with sustainability related tips, information and resources, demonstrate sustainable event management throughout chapter events, and host one sustainability-focused educational session annually.

ISES Vancouver hopes its initiatives will inspire other ISES Chapters around the world to play a role in promoting environmentally and socially responsible practices throughout the event industry. "We are striving to create positive outcomes and legacies for the communities and ecosystems within which we work and beyond," explains Tania Newman, ISES Vancouver President. "By bringing Ginny Stratton, Principal of Strategin Solutions, to the Board of ISES Vancouver, we now have a wealth of knowledge at hand to educate our members and others in the industry about sustainability principles and practices."

With the recent emergence of international event sustainability management standards including ISO 20121, the APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting standards, and the Global Reporting Initiative Event Organizer Sector Supplement (GRI EOSS), the demand for event related goods and services produced in accordance with sustainability management principles continues to increase. The ISES Vancouver sustainability initiatives are designed to enable members and other event industry professionals to meet this growing demand.

ISES Vancouver anticipates that its initiatives will help to position British Columbia as a leading destination offering the ability to deliver world-class sustainable events.
