Israeli Satellite Provider 'yes' Announces Commercial Pilot of New VoD Service Based on HomePNA

Leverages Existing Coax Infrastructure to Deliver New VoD Functionality

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - January 5, 2010) - CopperGate, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions used to deliver entertainment and control throughout the home, announced that 'yes', the leading satellite provider in Israel, has completed a successful commercial pilot of VoD services based upon CopperGate's HomePNA technology.

'yes' has already deployed the VoD solution to hundreds of consumers and has been successfully running the service for several months. The 'yes' solution streams video content to the customer's home through a DSL broadband connection and distributes over existing coax cables to hybrid satellite/IP set-top boxes using low-cost HomePNA adaptors. Using HomePNA over existing cabling to distribute the content inside the home is key in making this new service cost effective for 'yes' and its customers.

Executive Quotes:

Gabi Hilevitz, CopperGate CEO

"'yes' is an innovative satellite provider and we are happy to add them as a major HomePNA customer. Together, we are making it possible for 'yes' to compete effectively against other service providers in their market.

"HomePNA is an excellent technology for satellite companies. It allows them to easily add IP-related services on top of the regular broadcast channels using existing infrastructure. The success at 'yes' shows it is possible and economic for satellite companies to effectively compete in the digital revolution.

"HomePNA continues to expand globally. Now, HomePNA is used as a home networking solution by over 30 service providers globally and adoption continues to grow rapidly."

Itzhak Elyakim, VP Engineering and CTO, 'yes'

"CopperGate's HomePNA technology was exactly what we needed to deliver reliable VoD services to our half a million satellite customers. It supports the bandwidth required and QoS. It is reliable, it's easy to install, and can even be fed power directly from the 'yes' set top box. By using HomePNA, we have ensured that the home network is never the bottleneck.

"We have been very happy with the performance of the HomePNA solution and have received excellent feedback from our users. The solution has been very stable and the installations have all gone very well.

"CopperGate has been excellent to work with. They have been very flexible and responsive to our needs."
