It's Easy to Make Every Day Earth Day at Capilano Mall This Spring

NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 21, 2016) - With over one billion people expected to participate in Earth Day around the world this year, Capilano Mall is doing its part to help educate locals about Earth Day with its Earth Day Trees, on display at the mall until April 23.

"Earth Day is the largest global environmental movement right now, and for the sustainability of our planet we believe it's vital that we try our best to make every day Earth Day," said Shera Allibhai, Property Manager at Capilano Mall. "With the invention of our Earth Day Trees we hope to educate our community on the impact that we have on our environment. Even the smallest act can make a huge difference. If we're not careful today, this is what our future trees could look like."

Capilano Mall's Earth Day Trees are made out of over 1,000 water and soda bottles, along with plastic bags, all of which were collected at Capilano Mall over a two week period. With a single water bottle taking up to thousands of years to decompose, the Earth Day Trees are symbolic of why it is important to recycle our water bottles and use a re-usable water bottle whenever possible. Capilano Mall provides several green living tips that show shoppers what they can do in their everyday lives in order to ease up on Mother Nature.

"Most of the suggestions are things we have all heard before, like turning off lights when you leave a room or walking, taking public transit and ditching the car whenever possible but we can get set in our habits and need a gentle reminder," added Allibhai. "These hacks are simple and work, and if we all commit to a few we'll be doing a great service to future generations."

In addition to offering green living tips, such as buying reusable grocery bags and planting an Earth Day Tree, Capilano Mall will be offering free activities for kids and parents on Saturday, April 23 from 12pm - 3pm in the Grand Court. From live entertainment to earth-friendly crafts, parents and kids alike can learn a little bit more about how they can do their part to help our environment. As an added bonus, Capilano Mall is holding a contest where they will pay one lucky winner's BC Hydro for a year, up to $2,500. Shoppers can enter in-mall at any of the contest entry ballot boxes or online at CapilanoMall.com.
