It's Important to Vote! Period of Revision of the List of Electors of Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 19, 2005) - To enable residents to better understand the electoral process and exercise their right to vote, the following will be published or mailed by the Returning officer during the week of September 19: Public notice of revision of the list of electors in 4 designated dailies, Notice of revision to every residential address, and the Elector's Manual.

Notice of revision of the list of electors

To be entitled to vote on November 6, 2005, one's name must appear on the list of electors. The onus is on the electors to ensure that they are properly entered on the list. On September 21, a notice of revision will be published in La Presse, Le Journal de Montreal, Le Devoir and The Gazette.

During the week of September 19, a notice of revision bearing the names of all persons entered on the list of electors at a given address will also be mailed. To correct errors or omissions in the names or address appearing on the notice, electors must visit one of the 38 locations where the board of revisors will be sitting from October 2 to 5. The addresses will be shown on the schedule to the notice of revision.

Elector's Manual

During the week of September 19, all electors will receive a copy of the Elector's Manual in the mail. As it contains a clear description of the electoral process, electors are urged to read it over carefully. To be entitled to vote on November 6, all electors must be prepared to submit a valid proof of identity. This measure ensures that the rights of electors are protected and that no persons vote for others.

For more information on the electoral process, electors are invited to visit www.ville.montreal.qc.ca/election or call 514-872-8850. The Returning officer is responsible for ensuring that the general election of November 6 is held in full accordance with the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities.
