Eighth Annual Teacher of the Year Contest Awards Ann Swain of Woodin Elementary and Diane Trudnowski of Maple Elementary With Grand Prize Honors

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Jun 20, 2011) - As part of National Teacher Appreciation month in May, Ivar's and Kidd Valley restaurants launched their eighth annual Teacher of the Year contest. After reviewing hundreds of nominations from kindergarten through eighth grade students singing the praises of their favorite teachers, two exceptional teachers came out on top earning the grand prize. Ivar's is pleased to name Ann Swain of Bothell's Woodin Elementary School as Ivar's Teacher of the Year and Diane Trudnowski of Seattle's Maple Elementary School as the Kidd Valley Teacher of the Year. Each was presented with a $500 giant check good for a gift certificate for school supplies and a commemorative plaque, plus bragging rights among fellow teachers.

Third-grade students Alexander Johnson, Leila Siegel and Andrew Funk nominated Swain for her ability to make learning a fun, interesting and interactive experience, inviting educational speakers into the classroom and planning field trips to add to the students' curriculum. She was also recognized for her kind, warm and helpful personality. Swain and her third-grade class received a classroom chowder party, including a visit by Ivar's famous dancing clam!

Michelle Tse, a second-grade student from Maple Elementary School, nominated Trudnowski. Being recognized for her positive attitude, ability to inspire students to work towards their goals and teaching life's small lessons helped Trudnowski clinch the top spot.
