Ivar's Famous Chowder Now Available in Ready-to-Heat Cups

Seattle Seafood Icon Offers Commercial Line of Wholesome, Restaurant-Quality Chowders and Soups Packaged in Convenient Cups

MUKILTEO, WA--(Marketwire - May 17, 2011) - Ivar's Seafood Soup & Sauce Company, a leading distributor of premium seafood products, now offers its world-famous chowders and other delicious soups in sleek ready-to-heat packaging perfect for grocery retailers. In addition, the company has launched a number of new chowders, soup flavors and seafood sauces that provide a well-rounded selection to grocery retailers, restaurants and institutions alike.

  • Ready-to-Heat. Ivar's soups and chowders have traditionally been sold to foodservice and grocery stores as a concentrate. With the new equipment, Ivar's soups and chowders are now available to order in convenient 11 oz. and 24 oz. plastic microwavable containers for grocery sale. Ivar's will continue to create concentrate for its foodservice clients, though in limited quantities for its retail customers. With the new containers, Ivar's enters into a high-demand category for many grocers, while maintaining Ivar's great quality.
  • New Soups. Ivar's has introduced a variety of new flavors to both its Chowder & Bisque collection, as well as its TwoSpoon Soups brand (for soups and chowders without seafood). There are now 16 soups and chowders to choose from, including the latest additions:

    • Northwest Dungeness Crab Bisque, a silky tomato bisque packed with fresh crab, red bell pepper and sweet corn
    • Sweet Tomato Basil Bisque with ripe tomatoes, sweet basil and savory garlic in a creamy base
    • Roasted Potato Cheese Soup with a rich potato base and a robust blend of cheddar and parmesan cheeses
    • Loaded Mushroom Soup with six delicious mushrooms and a hearty, full-bodied flavor
    • Chicken Coconut Curry with Thai basil filled with chicken in an enticing broth of red curry and coconut milk

  • Private Labels. Ivar's also manufactures soups and sauces for private label brands. These may be created by Ivar's as an original recipe, or recreated from a provided recipe.

Ivar's, which currently operates roughly 68 foodservice locations across the Northwest, entered the soup business in 1991 to sell its famous chowder to more people via retail and foodservice channels. Last year, Ivar's produced enough of its famous Puget Sound Clam Chowder that if poured into 8-oz cups and stacked, they would reach the summit of Mt. Rainier (elevation of 14,411 ft.) approximately 120 times. Today, Ivar's is able to produce more chowders, soups and sauces than ever before allowing it to take on more coast-to-coast foodservice, restaurant and retail accounts.
