Ivar's Returns to Puyallup With Grand Opening Bash

First 100 People in Line Receive Free Fish 'n Chips or Chowder for a Year and the Popular Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine Makes Its South Sound Debut

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - May 16, 2011) - After a decade hiatus, Ivar's will o-fish-ally return to the Puyallup community on May 24 when it opens its newest Seafood Bar with a grand opening celebration. Located at 13101 Meridian Ave. E., the new fast casual restaurant marks the 25th location for the popular Ivar's seafood chain. Local dignitaries will help Ivar's officially open the new store with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The first 100 customers at the grand opening will score some seafood swag from Ivar's; the first 25 people in line will win free fish 'n chips for a year, the next 75 will be slurping on free chowder for a year and all 100 will receive gift bags with various prizes. In the afternoon, opening day diners will be treated to a festive "Seafood Serenade" featuring the Emerald Ridge High School drumline, entertainment by Ivar's Dancing Clams and diners can get their picture with the famous Clams and made into a magnet from 5 to 7 p.m. For those having trouble finding the new location, just look for the 10 by 15 foot giant inflatable clam that will reside atop the new Ivar's Seafood Bar during grand opening week.

The highly anticipated and much talked about Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain will also make its inaugural South Sound debut exclusively at Ivar's Puyallup location. The new, futuristic fountain is touch-screen operated allowing customers to choose from more than 125 regular and low-calorie brands -- including many varieties of waters, sports drinks, lemonades and sparkling beverages. Throughout the opening month, Ivar's will analyze the Freestyle data that it collects to determine Puyallup's most popular drinks and will begin to evaluate a new signature drink for Ivar's guests.

While offering its traditional favorites, Ivar's will also debut new, fresh and healthy menu items like:

  • Grilled Salmon BLT: grilled wild Yukon River Salmon, red leaf lettuce, tomato, bacon, house made garlic aioli and served on a rustic, multi-grain bun
  • Crab Cake Sandwich: Panko breaded Northwest Dungeness and Snow Crab with garlic aioli, organic wild greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette and served on a freshly baked bun
  • Fish Sandwich: Ivar's famous Pacific True Cod topped with red leaf lettuce, tomato and Ivar's famous tartar sauce served on a Kaiser bun
  • Asian Soba Salad with Prawns: Tiger Prawns and ramen noodles tossed in a ginger sesame vinaigrette with edamame, red bell pepper , red and green cabbage and topped with hand cut won tons
  • Grilled Fish Tacos: southwest spice marinated grilled Pacific True Cod, Ivar's signature coleslaw, chipotle tartar sauce and served with a side of fresh garden salsa

The 2,260-square foot Ivar's Puyallup Seafood Bar features indoor seating for up to 62 guests, plus al fresco dining for 20. All orders are placed at the Seafood Bar's interior counter or drive-thru for dine-in or takeout customers. Ivar's will be open daily for lunch and dinner, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Grand opening day event activities include:

  • 10 a.m.: the official opening of Ivar's newest Seafood Bar with a ribbon cutting ceremony conducted by Ivar's Seafood Bars Director of Operations, Dave Fechter, and Shelley Schlumpf from the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce
  • 10:30 a.m.: Ivar's Seafood Bar o-fish-ally opens for lunch for the very first time. The first 25 customers in line will win free fish 'n chips for a year, the next 75 will receive a free cup of chowder for the year and all 100 will receive Ivar's gift bags
  • 3:30 p.m.: the Emerald Ridge High School drumline perform its "Seafood Serenade" with Ivar's famous Dancing Clams
  • 5 -7 p.m.: at dinnertime, get a commerative picture taken with Ivar's Dancing Clams! A photo booth will be on hand throughout the evening
