Ixia Introduces Complete Data Center Cloud Simulation Solution to Validate Ultra-Low Latency Network Performance

Ixia and Force10 Networks' Interop Demonstration Highlights Top-of-Rack Switch Performance Requirements for Time-Sensitive, Cloud-Based Applications

The company's Xcellon-Flex™ and ImpairNet™ modules use a single integrated chassis to achieve realistic, timely, and cost-effective data center cloud simulation. Ixia's RFC-based test suites and benchmark performance metrics make it easy to evaluate and compare different network switches to justify purchase decisions. At Interop 2011 in booth #1367, Ixia is showcasing these new capabilities in a live evaluation of the traffic forwarding and ultra-low latency performance of Force10's S4810 top-of-rack (ToR) switch.

Data center operators are upgrading their infrastructure to support high volumes of VM-driven traffic, high forwarding performance, and ultra-low latency. The resulting complex traffic flows, fueled by server virtualization, strains switching equipment. Ixia's new Xcellon-Flex™ 10/40GE Accelerated Performance load module generates both east-west and north-south traffic flows that are characteristic of data center clouds, and measures whether switches can satisfy forwarding performance requirements. At the same time the new ImpairNet module simulates the latency that is inherent in wide area networks (WAN) between data center clouds, and validates whether the end-to-end performance is impacted by the delay within the WAN cloud. The ability to completely characterize the latency performance of data center clouds is critical for time-sensitive applications such as financial transactions, where even milliseconds of delay can results in a loss of thousands of dollars.
