Ixia Validates Conference High-Speed Network, Next-Gen Switches at SC11

Uses New Xcellon-Lava Load Module to Ensure SCinet Throughput, Demonstrates Switch Port Density With Arista Networks and Extreme Networks

CALABASAS, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 14, 2011) - Ixia (NASDAQ: XXIA), the leading global provider of converged IP and wireless network test solutions, announced today that it is helping the Super Computing 2011 (SC11) conference validate the throughput capacity of its onsite network. Using Ixia's new Xcellon-Lava 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) load modules, SC11 organizers successfully verified that the network could handle the level of traffic expected from exhibitors at the show. Ixia also worked with Arista Networks and Extreme Networks in their booths at SC11 to demonstrate high-density switches for data center traffic management.

The SC11 conference continues a long and successful tradition of engaging the international community in high performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis. SC11 will place an emphasis on facilitating information exchange between communities, discussions and new collaborations for research and education related to innovating high performance computing applications, and advancing scientific discovery and scholarship.

During the conference, SCinet provides a high capacity network platform for exhibitors to demonstrate their cutting-edge computing applications -- building more bandwidth than most other networks in the world. Ixia used its just-released Xcellon Lava 40/100 to test the capacity and throughput of the SCinet architecture prior to deployment for use by show attendees.

Ixia's Xcellon-Lava 40/100-Gigabit Ethernet test modules are the next generation of Ixia's Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) products. Xcellon-Lava modules are essential for testing high-density data center 40GE and 100GE network equipment for large enterprises, service providers, and carrier-class networks. The Xcellon-Lava is a layer 1-7 measurement and analysis test solution that is supported by Ixia's leading test applications, including IxNetwork and IxLoad, and is compatible with Ixia's XG12™, XM chassis series, and a broad range of Ethernet interfaces -- allowing real-world, layer 1-7 test and measurement in a single chassis.

Ixia will participate with two other exhibitors at the conference:

  • Ixia will help Arista Networks demonstrate its 7050T-64 device, the world's first very-low-power, 1RU, line-rate, 48-Port 10G-BaseT switch. The 7050T-64, which includes 4x40G QSFP ports, is the second generation of 10G-BaseT switches from Arista Networks -- maintaining Arista Networks' leadership in datacenter switching. The demonstration will take place in Arista Networks' booth #435.
  • Ixia will assist Extreme Networks showcase the BlackDiamond® X8 fabric switch for HPCC and Cloud networking. The BlackDiamond X8 features industry-leading 10/40GbE density and capacity and was recently tested with the Lippis Report to have the lowest average latency of 2.3 microseconds for 64 bit frames, close to half the power consumption of competitors, at 8.1 Watts per 10GbE port at 1/3 loading, and to achieve 100% throughput with 0 packet loss as a percentage of line-rate across 256-10GbE and 24-40GbE ports. The demonstration will take place in Extreme Networks' booth #5712.
