Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 12, 2008) - Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the licensing body for professional engineers in the province, installed J. David Adams, P.Eng., MBA, as its 89th President during its annual general meeting (AGM) on May 10, 2008, at the Hilton Windsor Hotel. Mr. Adams succeeds Walter K. Bilanski, PhD, P.Eng., and will lead PEO's 70,000 members and interns and chair its Council in 2008-2009.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Adams laid out a 10-step work plan under which PEO Council will operate in 2008. His priorities include installing a multi-tiered licensing model that moves engineering students through to becoming licensed PEngs.; developing a knowledge-based internship program supported by collaborative Internet mentors; and creating a Centre for Engineering and Public Policy, to prepare and present position papers on relevant issues picked to provide future prosperity in Ontario.

Born in Ottawa, Mr. Adams studied arts and science at Carleton University before entering McGill University where he earned a BEng in mechanical engineering, and later his MBA in finance and marketing from the University of Western Ontario. He has been involved extensively in mechanical engineering design and production management, as well as acquisition analysis and business operations. He worked at the National Research Council, in the oil fields of Alberta, CIL, Abitibi Power and Paper, and held senior positions with Canadian Gypsum and Massey Ferguson before acquiring the 140-employee Canada Spool & Bobbin Company. He is currently president of Maple Leaf Engineering, a consulting firm specializing in lean design and manufacturing, wood processing machinery, and sawmill and dry kiln design.

Mr. Adams was twice elected a PEO Regional Councillor and has many years of chapter, committee and task force service. He chaired both the Governance Task Force and the Audit Committee. He is a past president of the Rotary Club and a member of Gideon International. He is happily married to Dorothy and has three grown children.

Professional Engineers Ontario administers the Professional Engineers Act by licensing Ontario's professional engineers, granting temporary, limited and provisional licences to practise professional engineering, and authorizing businesses to provide engineering services to the public. It sets standards for and regulates engineering in Ontario so that the public interest is served and protected. Rigorously educated, experienced, and committed to a Code of Ethics that puts the public first, licensed professional engineers can be identified by the P.Eng. after their names.
