James Williams Wins Sky Poker Tour Grand Final

It's a Team Sky Poker double on the Sky Poker Tour as James 'LJAMESL' Williams joins TSP team mate Wayne Rideout as an SPT champion

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2011) - Swindon's James Williams walked away from Dusk Till Dawn the SPT Grand Final Champion after defeating Astel Cowan and 373 other players for the title and £22,000 first prize.

Williams, who represents the online poker room as a 'Team Sky Poker' member, took control of the final table as the players neared the tournament conclusion. Astel proved to be a difficult opponent though, battling to overcome a 3-1 chip deficit. Cowan, a player from the Birmingham area, drew level with Williams momentarily before the Team Sky Poker player once again exerted his authority.

In the final hand the chips went over the line with Williams holding ace-king and Cowan ace-five. The flop brought hope to the Cowan as he flopped an open-ended straight draw. The turn card added even more outs, providing a flush draw as well as the straight draw, but the river card meant William's hand stayed ahead and have him collect the £22,000 first prize and SPT title.

The 22-year-old pro was obviously delighted with the result. "I have only played a handful of live competitions this year so to win this one was just a brilliant feeling. Nothing matches the buzz of winning a tournament, it's quite surreal", said Williams.

The victory brought to a close the third season of the Sky Poker Tour but qualifiers will shortly be open for the all-new fourth outing of the SPT. The opening leg of the 2011-12 Sky Poker Tour returns to Dusk Till Dawn for an all-new six max event, and with the tour as a whole offering guaranteed prizepool of £250,000 it is set to be even more successful than its predecessor.

"This year's SPT has seen it all," commented Dave Bland of Sky Poker. "We've had some of the toughest fields assembled in the UK at these buy-in levels, and with champions such as James you get a clear idea of just how strong the play has become now. Next year will be something quite special."
