Jamont Gordon Wins Cellular South Fans' Choice Award

Fans Pick Gordon as Top Player in Mississippi; Media Selects Jackson State's Trey Johnson for Cellular South Howell Trophy

With over 17,000 total votes cast, Mississippi State University sophomore guard Jamont Gordon took home the Cellular South Fans' Choice Award during tonight's Cellular South Outstanding Player Award's presentation at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson, Miss.

Gordon received 8,425 votes, beating out Todd Abernathy of Ole Miss (6,506 votes) and Trey Johnson of Jackson State (2,092 votes) as the fans' choice for Mississippi's best college basketball player. Thanks to Gordon's victory, Cellular South will donate $2,500 to MSU's athletic department.

While Gordon was the fans' choice, Trey Johnson took home the prestigious Cellular South Howell Trophy, awarded by a media panel to Mississippi's top basketball player for the 2006-2007 season.


The Cellular South Howell Trophy and Cellular South Fans' Choice Awards are part of Cellular South's Outstanding Player Awards, administered by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. The award series also includes the Cellular South Ferris Trophy, honoring Mississippi's best collegiate baseball player of the year, and the Cellular South Conerly Trophy, honoring Mississippi's best collegiate football player -- all announced during live broadcasts on MPB throughout the year.
