Jane Goodall Special Guest of Honor at Tarzan Centennial Celebration -- Warner Center Marriott Hotel, August 18, 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 15, 2012) -  At the invitation of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., Dr. Jane Goodall will be a special guest of honor at the Tarzan Centennial Celebration banquet, just blocks from a city named after the famous ape-man. It is part of a three-day Burroughs Bibliophiles Convention which pays tribute to the most famous ERB creations of all -- Tarzan and his mate Jane, as well as John Carter of Mars, characters first introduced to the public in 1912. It's fitting that Dr. Goodall will be honored here, as she credits reading Burroughs' Tarzan novels from the age of eleven as inspiration for her love of Africa and pursuit of primatology as a career.

Dr. Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977, and as a champ among the chimps, she travels three hundred days a year to speak about chimpanzees, environmental crises, and her hopes that humankind will solve the problems it has imposed on the earth. Dr. Goodall is a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and in 2003 was named a Dame of the British Empire (DBE).

Jim Morris, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Production at Pixar Animation Studios, and producer of "John Carter" (this year's feature film adaptation of ERB's A Princess of Mars), will attend the banquet as another special guest of honor.

Also attending the celebration as a special guest is bestselling author Robin Maxwell. Her newest novel, JANE: The Woman Who Loved Tarzan, has already been glowingly endorsed by the woman she counts as her favorite real-life heroine. "Finally, an honest portrayal of the only woman of whom I have been really, really jealous," said Goodall of Maxwell's book. Signed copies of the JANE galley and audio book will be given as gifts to full Centennial participants.

The Tarzan Centennial Celebration, which takes place on August 16-18, 2012 at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills, CA, features a "Huckster Room" for collectors, panel discussions on literary and film subjects, and celebrity guest appearances.
