Japan 'Meats' Berlin: The Midtown Grill Serves Original Japanese Kobe Beef

The Steakhouse at Berlin Marriott Hotel Offers Guests the Most Exclusive Beef in the World

BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Feb 18, 2015) - Far surpassing ordinary steakhouse standards, a new menu at the Berlin Marriott Hotel's Midtown Grill is boasting some of the finest meat cuts in the world. Now serving noble Kobe Beef from Japan, this popular steakhouse in Berlin is the first Marriott-branded property in Europe to offer the exclusive beef.

"The meat of the Kobe beef should not be put directly onto the grill, but rather gently fried in a pan without fat," says Chef Thomas Czerwionke, who along with his culinary team prepares the striploin of the Kobe Beef in a pan. "That way the Kobe beef will keep its typical own taste while frying, thanks to the high fat content of the meat. In the hot lava stone grill the buttery-soft flesh of Kobe beef, however, would quickly become too hot and burn. The best way to enjoy the steak is seasoned with a little salt or combined with strong aroma side dishes."

The steaks are prepared in the restaurant's open show kitchen inside the downtown Berlin hotel, adding to the tantalizing atmosphere of the eatery near Potsdamer Platz. The noble Kobe Beef is kept in the show kitchen's glass refrigerator and can be eyed-up and selected by guests prior to the preparation. Upon request, restaurant guests can watch how the steak is cut to perfection and fried. A 200-gram Kobe Beef steak with two side dishes is priced at EUR 109, 100 grams more costs EUR 59 extra.

The Kobe Beef of Midtown Grill comes from purebred Tajima cattle from the Japanese Hyogo Prefecture on the island of Honshu and has a BMS (Beef Marble Score) of 8-10. It is only since last summer that the Japanese beef has been exported to Europe. Due to limited production, Kobe Beef is considered the most expensive and finest meat in the world. On request, Thomas Czerwionke's team also offers Kobe Grill courses for groups of up to twelve people. Cost per participant is EUR 199.

The Midtown Grill at the Berlin Marriott Hotel is open daily. Hours Monday to Friday are 6:30 to 11 a.m. and from noon to 11 p.m. On weekends and holidays the steakhouse at Ebertstrasse 3 welcomes guests continuously from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling +4930 - 220 00 64 10.
