Nine Major championship winners set to challenge Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club Attention: Sports Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor VANCOUVER--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 26, 2005) - The Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) and Bell Canada announced today more players - including 2005 sensation Jason Gore - who have confirmed their intention to compete in the 2005 Bell Canadian Open, September 5-11 at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, B.C.

Gore, a regular on the Nationwide Tour, began to capture international attention earlier this year as he held a share of the 36-hole lead at the 2005 U.S. Open. He would eventually finish tied for 49th but rode the momentum to capture three consecutive victories on the Nationwide Tour. The string of wins would earn him an automatic "battlefield" promotion onto the PGA Tour as he gets set to compete in his third career Bell Canadian Open.

Bell Canada and the RCGA are also pleased to announce that PGA Tour veterans Tom Lehman and Corey Pavin have confirmed their intention to challenge the field at Shaughnessy. Lehman, who will captain the 2006 US Ryder Cup team, is a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, including the 1996 British Open. Pavin, a fan-favourite throughout his 17 appearances at the Canadian Open, has 14 career PGA Tour victories, including the 1995 US Open.

The pair will join fellow major winners Fred Funk (2004 Player Championship), Todd Hamilton (2004 British Open), Rich Beem (2002 PGA Championship), Mark Calcavecchia (1989 British Open), Craig Stadler (1982 Masters, 1991 Players Championship), Canada's own Mike Weir (2003 Masters) and defending champion Vijay Singh (1998 and 2004 PGA Championship, 2000 Masters, 2002 Tour Championship).

Also set to compete in Vancouver are 2005 PGA Tour winners Ben Crane (US Bank Championship), Tim Petrovic (Zurich Classic of New Orleans) and Vaughan Taylor (Reno-Tahoe Open).

Others players announced today include PGA veteran Brad Faxon, a 7-time winner on the PGA Tour and two-time member of the US Ryder Cup Team, as well as past PGA Tour winners Jonathan Kaye and Rod Pampling and father-son duo Craig and Kevin Stadler.

The world's best professional golfers will be competing for $4.9 million U.S. at the 2005 Bell Canadian Open, September 5-11 at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club. Limited tickets still remain for all tournament rounds with the RCGA expecting this year's event to once again sell out.

Tickets for the 2005 Bell Canadian Open can be ordered on-line at or by phone at 1-800-571-OPEN.
