The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, today reiterated the Government of Canada's support for the 37th Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, which will take place from June 29 to July 9, 2016.
Canadian Heritage is announcing funding of $1 million for the 2016 edition of the Festival. This amount, provided through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will help offer a diverse lineup featuring many emerging artists.
Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) highlighted its non-repayable contribution of $687,375 for the 2016 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. This funding, provided under the Quebec Economic Development Program, aims to support the Festival's international marketing strategy to attract ever larger numbers of tourists from abroad.
- The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal hosts 3,000 performers from 30 countries every year.
- Over a period of 10 days, nearly 2 million festival visitors enjoy 600 concerts and activities-two thirds of which are free open-air performances.
- Presented in the Quartier des spectacles from noon to midnight, the impressive lineup features various jazz, blues and world music trends.
