JD Spangler of Sara Lee Named to Consumer Goods Technology Magazine's (CGT) Prestigious "Visionaries 2007" List

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - July 17, 2007) - JD Spangler, vice president of direct store distribution (DSD) customer management and marketing for Sara Lee Food & Beverage has been named to Consumer Goods Technology (CGT) "Visionaries 2007" list. In selecting Spangler, the magazine cited his leadership in working toward change in the bakery-pricing environment, encouraging an environment that challenges the status quo and applies new models that better meet today's business environment. Previously, CGT has selected only 104 consumer goods executives for the Visionaries list since it was first published in 2003.

In his leadership role with Sara Lee's DSD business, Spangler manages the company's sales and marketing organization that supports the multi-million dollar fresh bakery business. Since joining Sara Lee Food & Beverage in 2003, Spangler has aggressively worked toward consolidating the company's highly fragmented bakery business into a national brand with high consumer visibility and equity. Historically, Sara Lee focused on local or regional brands with limited consumer recognition beyond their communities. According to Spangler, "The bakery category is in a state of transition.
