JD's Food Mart/Development Property Near Bryant-Denny Stadium to Sell at Auction

TUSCALOOSA, AL--(Marketwire - April 5, 2011) - For decades, University of Alabama students have been walking to the store now known as JD's Food Mart for grocery items, beer and wine. But soon, the store will have a new owner.

That's because the property -- located at the corner of Paul W. Bryant Drive and Gene Stallings Avenue -- will be sold at absolute auction on Thursday, May 12, with Target Auction Company conducting the sale.

"The store is truly an institution, but of course, the new owners may have something different in mind for it. The location is suitable for a restaurant, condominiums, apartments or retail," said Dewey Jacobs, president of Target Auction Company.

"Even if the new owners choose to put something else at the location, they may choose to operate the store while they develop plans and secure approvals for a new development. Because of the location, less than three blocks from Bryant-Denny Stadium, the property has generated approximately $20,000 a year in game day revenues from parking and vendor rentals," said Jacobs.

The store was previously known as Grant's Market.

"This property is approximately 19,000 square feet and is one of the last retail properties left in that area," said Jacobs.

The auction will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at the property. Individuals seeking additional information may contact Jacobs at 800-476-3939 or visit
