JDSU Recognized for Network and Service Enablement Innovation

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 13, 2012) - JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) announced today that four of its communications test solutions have been recognized with industry awards for innovation in network and service enablement.

JDSU's PacketPortal was selected by Pipeline for its 2012 Product Innovation Award, naming it the most innovative new communications technology product in the market. TMC's INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine honored two JDSU solutions -- the JDSU DSAM Field View QAM and the SmartID Advanced Coax Probes -- as Cable Spotlight Products of the Year. TMC also awarded PacketPortal and JDSU's TrueSpeed Automated TCP Test solution its 2012 Unified Communications Labs Innovation Award.

JDSU's solutions won for their unique ability to enable high-quality advanced networking, critical 4G/LTE deployment, and innovative new services during a time of unprecedented bandwidth demand and network complexity. A summary of JDSU's innovative, award-winning solutions:

  • PacketPortal is a software solution that cost-effectively gathers intelligence on voice, video and data applications anywhere in the network to create new revenue streams, optimize the customer experience and dramatically improve troubleshooting. PacketPortal, the first in a new class of Smart Network Application Platform (SNAP) products, provides ubiquitous, real-time access to critical network data, replacing traditional methods that cannot scale with the current growth of devices and applications. As an open platform, PacketPortal also makes it easy for equipment manufacturers and third parties to develop new network and service enablement applications that leverage network data that, to date, has been challenging to capture, including data from the edge of the network where the majority of quality issues occur.

  • JDSU's DSAM Field View QAM test solution offers a simple, single-technician troubleshooting tool used to locate and repair hard-to-find impairments on the return path. With one-person troubleshooting both in-home and HFC service issues, technicians can rapidly confirm in real-time service-impacting impairments have been fixed. SmartID Advanced Coax Probes comprehensively test home coax networks in less than two minutes. Both highlighted solutions help reduce repeat calls for improved customer experience.

  • The JDSU TrueSpeed Automated TCP Test solution allows field technicians who install and troubleshoot Ethernet/IP services to run traditional installation tests as well as a quick transmission control protocol (TCP) test during the same truck roll in less than five minutes. Using TrueSpeed, finger-pointing scenarios can be solved when end customers complain of poor throughput, but Layer 2/3 tests are passing. One service provider estimated the savings could exceed 20 percent of operating expenditures based on truck rolls that could be eliminated.

Pipeline's 2012 Product Innovation Award honors solutions with the highest innovation and thought leadership attributes in the communications technology industry. TMC's Product of the Year Award distinguishes those companies that have demonstrated the vision, leadership, and thoroughness associated with the most advanced cable technology products brought to market in 2011. The TMC Labs Innovation Award honors products that have demonstrated innovation, unique features, and noteworthy developments toward improving communications technology.
