JDSU Wins Frost & Sullivan 2010 Market Penetration Leadership Award for Gigabit Ethernet Test Equipment

JDSU Mobile Ethernet Backhaul and Other Ethernet Technology Solutions Highlighted

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - September 23, 2010) -  JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) announced today that it received the Frost & Sullivan 2010 Market Penetration Leadership Award for achieving increased market share growth in the Gigabit Ethernet test equipment market. After an extensive evaluation of several companies, the research and consulting firm concluded that JDSU led the competition based on its cutting edge instruments, solutions and services; strategic acquisitions; and strong customer service.

"JDSU leveraged its broad portfolio of cutting edge products, solutions, and technological expertise along with high level customer service in the global Gigabit Ethernet test equipment market," said Prathima Bommakanti, senior research analyst, Frost & Sullivan. "We were impressed with JDSU's track record in the Ethernet market. They demonstrated clear leadership in Ethernet product innovation and close collaboration with worldwide customers that led to its strong showing in our Gigabit Ethernet market study."

JDSU's Ethernet testing products highlighted in the report include the JDSU T-BERD®/MTS-6000A, T-BERD®/MTS-8000, HST-3000 Handheld Services Tester and QT-600 Ethernet Probe.

"As broadband services demand higher bandwidth and cost-efficiency through Ethernet, we continually evaluate market needs and develop innovative Ethernet solutions in collaboration with our customers to help them deliver the highest level of service to their customers," said Jerry Gentile, senior vice president in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "JDSU's innovative solutions stand out for addressing the raw complexity of deploying Ethernet services and for adapting quickly to account for continuous changes in Ethernet technologies. We are proud that Frost & Sullivan has recognized our Ethernet test leadership, including user-friendly testers that allow rapid service deployment while meeting strict service level agreement (SLA) requirements."

Highlights of some of the key differentiators and product innovation that separate JDSU from its competitors include:

  • JDSU Widely Deployed Ethernet Backhaul Solution -- Combining JDSU systems and portable solutions, the JDSU solution is a widely recognized and implemented Ethernet solution for both backhaul providers and mobile operators to help service providers rapidly transition and turn up thousands of cell site towers as well as monitor backhaul performance adherence to some of the industry's strictest SLAs.
  • JDSU Leading Ethernet Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) Test -- Ethernet OAM is a vital enabler for Ethernet to become a carrier-grade technology. JDSU's innovative Ethernet OAM test applications perform essential tasks to install, monitor, and troubleshoot for efficient Ethernet services deployment, such as verifying links, connectivity, inserting alarms and initiating loopback.
  • JDSU Simplifying the Complexity of Ethernet Installation, Troubleshooting and Maintenance -- JDSU Ethernet test applications probe, discover and record the health and reliability of Ethernet networks by characterizing the transport layers and the higher-layer, IP/TCP-based flows that impact applications and services. From basic installation testing with RFC 2544 to advanced provisioning with TCP Wirespeed testing, JDSU presents Ethernet test information in a simplified summary format to make result interpretation simple and easy.
  • JDSU Innovative Test for Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) Networks -- As service provider networks continue the transition from time division multiplexing (TDM) to packet technology, synchronization and its evolution in these converged networks is critical to high-bandwidth technology services and networks such as video and mobile backhaul networks. JDSU SyncE jitter/wander solution uniquely characterize both the jitter and wander performance of SyncE circuits so that timing and synchronization functions avoid signal degradation or network performance problems.
