Jeff Lowe Storage Visions Conference Keynote Speaker Talks About NASCAR Video and Digital Storage

Conference and Pre-Conference SSD Class Early Registration Set to Close on December 17, 2010

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - November 30, 2010) - The Tenth Annual Storage Visions Conference will be held at the Riviera Hotel Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 4 - 5, 2011. New exhibitors include Nimbus Technology, Sugarsync and Unity Semiconductor. Storage Visions provides a vision for new digital storage technologies used for content storage.

Jeff Lowe of Building4Media (former Managing Director for Media and Broadcast Technology, NASCAR Media Group) will give a talk titled: How NASCAR Nearly Wrecked Before the Finish Line. Following is an abstract for his keynote talk on January 4, 2011.

In 2009 NASCAR began to build out a brand new state of the art video production & broadcast facility in Charlotte, NC. Scheduled to go online during the 8 weeks between seasons, it was designed to be as unique as the sport itself with the 43 teams going 200 mph for 5 or more hours at a time for 10 months out of the year. We were to capture it all in HD video files in both hi res and low resolution. We used three tiers of storage, created terabytes each weekend and we had petabytes in the library. We had overall 50 years of archive. When this system was all connected... it didn't work! What had been missed in the early calculations? What was done to fix it? Attend this keynote talk and hear what mistakes were made and which lessons were learned.

Jeff Lowe recently joined Building 4 Media the developer of the FORK™ suite of television automation and media asset management applications. "B4M," is a 14 year old Netherlands based company which was recently acquired by Miami based Primestream Inc. Jeff occupies the newly created position of COO as well as holding a seat on the executive board. From August 2008 through June 2010, he was the Managing Director for Media & Broadcast technology for the NASCAR media group. He was responsible for the successful on time and under budget build out and subsequent operations portion of the NASCAR investment of $20m to expand and mature the day to day operations of this organization tasked with supporting the second most watched sport in the US today. One of the key goals for NASCAR in building out this state of the Art facility was to position themselves strategically against all of the current licensees for contract negotiation in 2014. This will include current broadcast partners, Fox, ESPN and Turner. He served at Apple for nine years as well as other prior companies cultivating the adoption of digital technology into the Broadcast and professional video markets.

A preconference class, Solid State Storage: The Fundamentals will be held the afternoon of January 3, 2011. The Fundamentals tutorial, taught by storage industry veteran and expert instructor, Chuck Sobey, is a great way to get up-to-date quickly and be able to take maximum advantage of the presentations and contacts at Storage Visions 2011.
