Jennifer Mawby Announced Feature Artist for Cambridge House International's "Showcase for the Visual Arts"

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 12, 2006) - Vancouver artist Jennifer Mawby has been selected as the feature artist by the "Showcase for the Visual Arts". Jennifer's signature piece for the event is currently on display in the Showcase Gallery, 815 West Pender St., Vancouver, BC. The featured artwork is a 4" x 6" oil painting of an abstracted landscape titled "Zephyr". The painting will be featured at the Nov. 30th, 2006 Showcase Reception, and ultimately auctioned at the January 20th, 2007 Vancouver Investment Conference Awards Gala and Art Auction, to benefit ALS Society of B.C. and Alpine Canada.

Mawby is a rising local artist who works in a variety of mediums, with an emphasis on painting. The nature of her work typically explores the tension between two polarities, and heightens the awareness of this experience through the use of mirrored or reflected imagery. Moving fluidly between methods and marks, she utilizes a blend of process-based, expressionistic mark-making, a signature Rorschach-like printing method with roots in Dada, and linear geometric abstraction. In addition to pursuing her own studio practice, Mawby is notable in her commitment to create opportunities for other artists, and to raise awareness about arts and culture in Vancouver. Her work is shown in the US and Canada (

The "Showcase for the Visual Arts", is a new program to support and promote visual artists through a two-tiered sponsorship and fundraising event that is proudly sponsored by Cambridge House International. The program has the following objectives:

- To provide tangible, financial support for Vancouver artists at the grass-roots level

- To develop tangible support from the business community for the Vancouver visual artists

- To provide a forum to expose the business community to exciting, local talent in the visual arts

- To provide impactful and tangible support for both the visual arts and other charitable interests through a tiered sponsorship/auction fundraising model.

The call for artists to participate in the 2006 program is open until Oct. 23rd. Artists can be selected for the silent auction event, where all proceeds, capped at $1000, will go to the artist. From this event, approximately 15 artists will be selected for the January gala auction. These artists will receive an honorarium of $1000 sponsored by a local business in recognition of the investment made in the development of their artwork. Submission information can be found online:
