Jesse Young CEO of Per DM Sees 'The Apprentice' as Much More Than a TV Programme.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2010) - With the new series of BBC's 'The Apprentice' now underway, Jesse Young of Per DM, one of Britain's fastest growing Outsource Sales organisations, believes that TV like this is not only good television but also helps to stir the nation's entrepreneurial imagination.

"Watching the dynamic of the group develop and having an insight into the challenges unlocks the viewer's thinking. It stirs ambition" said Jesse.

With Lord Alan Sugar's finger pointing trademark "You're fired!" line, the show reaches a climax. The viewer could be sitting in a modern day Roman Coliseum as Caesar gives his verdict on the fate of the Gladiators. It's this compelling climax which creates the interest and separates 'The Apprentice' from other programmes. With 'X Factor', 'Big Brother' and 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' it's the viewers who make the decision. In 'The Apprentice' one man makes the decision which changes someone's life forever.

We have come to accept "being fired" or "getting fired" as part and parcel of modern life but do we know what the origins of "fired" are? It goes back to the era in mining where miners had to supply their own tools. However, miners who were caught stealing coal, copper or tin, would have their tools confiscated and burned at the pit head. This would be done in front of other shift workers. The punishment became known as 'firing the tools' or 'being fired'. It meant the offender was unable to find other work and thus repeat his crime elsewhere. As a result other trades adopted the practice and the phrase quickly established itself.

"In business, CEO's, MD's and executives need to make decisions which, at the time, seem harsh" says Jesse Young "However, those decisions are not made on the spur of the moment. They are arrived at as a result of assessing the situation and determining just what is best for the company. The collective good of a business is paramount and executives should never lose sight of that".

'The Apprentice' gives the general public an insight as to how business leaders think. It shows them just what processes are gone through to reach a decision and why that decision is reached.

"More than any other business series 'The Apprentice' both educates and inspires" remarks Jesse "It is a programme which enables us to see both sides of the fence, creates debate, stirs emotion and tests our own powers of judgement".

There will only be ONE apprentice at the end of this series however, the interest created will spawn a new generation of better informed 'apprentices' and drive their ambitions to succeed in business.
