Jet Li and Coco Lee joining Chinese Canadian Tsunami Relief Efforts

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, World News Editor VANCOUVER B.C.--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 7, 2005) - Vancouver, January 7, 2005 - A charity event "Crossing Borders Fundraising Show", featuring action movie hero Jet Li, Asia's No.1 Comedy Star Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer), internationally renowned pop diva Coco Lee and a lot more well-loved singers from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, many of whom have not performed in public for years, will be brought to Chinese Canadians nationally as part of a second tsunami relief telethon by Fairchild Television in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross on Saturday, January 8, at 8pm EST/PST.

This second telethon in one week, organized by Fairchild Television in Canada, will raise additional funds for victims of the tsunami devastating Southern Asian countries. "In a matter of 3 hours, Chinese Canadian viewers contributed a phenomenal CDN$500,000 through our previous telethon held on January 2, when we partnered with World Vision Canada" stated Joe Chan, President of Fairchild Television, "I am extremely proud of witnessing the enthusiasm expressed by the Chinese community in Canada to the tsunami victims".

January 8's telethon will see additional top regional stars like Hong Kong's Francis Yip, Andy Lau, Jackie Cheung, Taiwan's Chang Hui-mei, Zhang Xiao-yan and China's Sun Nan and tennis star Serena Williams, who was in Hong Kong for a tournament.With their participation in the show, Chinese Canadian viewers will definitely not be shy to demonstrate their generosity and benevolence again.

A toll free number, 1-877-906-2639, with 50 designated phone lines and trilingual (English, Cantonese and Mandarin)-speaking call-takers, have been arranged by the Canadian Red Cross throughout the telethon to assist in accepting funds. "We hope that this arrangement will sufficiently eliminate any delays in answering donor's calls, which will in turn help maximize the result of the telethon." Chan remarked.
