At the Retrouvailles Evening of the Faculty of Arts of Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) held last night at Salle Pierre-Mercure, Centre Pierre Péladeau, Ms. Jo-Ann Kane, art historian and curator of the National Bank Financial Group's Art Collection, was named Ambassador of UQAM's Faculty of Arts.

An honorary distinction presented by the Faculty of Arts to influential graduates, the Ambassador title acknowledges their outstanding professional accomplishments, their contribution to the advancement of their academic field and sphere of action as well as to the reputation of their alma mater, the Université du Québec à Montréal.

Jo-Ann holds a Bachelor in History of arts and a Master's in Museology from Université du Québec à Montréal. She was Curator of the Hydro-Québec Collection from 1997 to 2000, before being appointed Curator, responsible for administrating and managing the National Bank Financial Group Collection, one of the largest corporate art collection in Canada with over 7,000 original art pieces – paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and photographs. A recognized expert in contemporary art and art markets, Jo-Ann also advises Private Wealth 1859 clients who want to make acquisitions or get estimates for their private collection.

A specialist most appreciated by her peers, gallery owners and collectors, Jo-Ann Kane will soon carry out her duties of ambassador as she will be guest speaker on the importance of art in the corporate environment at the Montreal Contemporary Art Event to be held as part of Expo 2010 in Shanghai, Montreal's Chinese twin city, on May 12.

For 150 years, the Collection constitutes an important and complex activity. In addition to being an investment that is seen and adorns branches and offices, the Collection reflects some aspects of the Bank's social role in providing direct support to Canadian artists and creations. Through its commitment to the valorization of arts in general, and its history, the Financial Group also participates in developing a feeling of genuine pride towards our collective heritage.
