EDMONTON, AB--(Marketwired - July 18, 2016) - JOEY Restaurant Group's newest location, JOEY Bell Tower, will open in the heart of downtown Edmonton on August 18 at 3pm. Located in the new arena district, JOEY Bell Tower will feature an open kitchen with glass walls to showcase the chefs in action to all those who pass by.
Currently operating 14 restaurants in Edmonton and Calgary, JOEY has invested over 29 million dollars in construction since 2001 and currently employs more than 1,300 people in the province of Alberta. Employees in Alberta represent 1/3 of the total jobs JOEY provides in North America. With new locations set to open this year, JOEY will invest an additional 12 million dollars back into the province and provide 175 new Alberta jobs.
"Guests will see the kitchen like never before," said Darin Getty, Regional Manager of JOEY Restaurants. "This design will truly showcase the talent we house at JOEY and guests will get to experience chef life like never before."
Elegant custom chandeliers dawn the entrance of JOEY Bell Tower fabricated by Calgary's own Christiaan & Planck. A large double sided chevron wine wall, an element brought to life by local Alberta Custom Metal Fabricators, will be a dramatic feature of the new location.
The restaurant has incorporated a covered garden terrace that can be enjoyed all year long. Large operable doors can be opened during the summer months to bring the outdoors in, while a large double-sided fireplace helps curb the chilly Edmonton winters.
Off the garden terrace is the lounge with the first ever bar island of any JOEY location. This island hosts a juicing station for bartenders to showcase their skills. Spanning across the entire back wall of the space is an illuminated 3D brick wall made from Purington Pavers, a signature reclaimed brick used to form streets in the early 1900s. A refurbished neon sign, rooting from 1930s Chicago era, hangs in the distance and adds a dynamic glow to the space.
The JOEY Bell Tower menu will feature a lot of new offerings, including:
- Osaka Style Pressed Salmon Sushi, with fire seared salmon, umami sauce and shaved serrano peppers,
- Night Market Curry Dip, a spicy chickpea curry served with house baked naan bread and aromatic herbs,
- Chef's Daily Rotisserie Chicken that is brined for 24 hours, spit-roasted hourly with signature spices and finished with globally inspired flavors that change daily.
"It was important to me to share the whole culinary experience with our guests," said JOEY Executive Chef Chris Mills. "Our showcase kitchen allows guests to see the craftsmanship and quality that goes into every dish. We're also excited to feature our liquid nitrogen Spun Daily Ice Cream perfect for the long summer days. We work with a talented group of chefs and we are excited to showcase their skills."
JOEY created a bursary program for NAIT two years ago and 12 thousand dollars has been donated over the past four years which is used to award three scholarships annually.
JOEY partners with organizations like NAIT to ensure they are in touch with community needs. "In working with the educational facilities directly, we can have a direct impact on job creation turning apprenticeships into careers," said Chris Mills, Executive Chef of JOEY Restaurants. "This commitment to training doesn't need to stop after 'school.' We are currently working with NAIT's corporate training arm with the aim of creating continuing education courses that cover a variety of skills for JOEY cooks that could be attended weekends or evenings."
"These culinary apprentices are the future of the industry," said Jeff Fuller, CEO of JOEY Restaurants. "We want to ensure they have the right training and support to make a career out of their dreams. We are committed to creating that future in Edmonton and JOEY Bell Tower is just one piece of that puzzle."
Located at 10310 - 101 Street in the Ice District, JOEY Bell Tower opens August 18 at 3pm.
