John Pecman Appointed Commissioner of Competition


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 12, 2013) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, Minister of State (Agriculture) and Minister responsible for the Competition Bureau, today announced the appointment of John Pecman as Commissioner of Competition for a five-year term.

Mr. Pecman has been with the Competition Bureau since 1984. He has worked in every enforcement branch of the Bureau and held a variety of increasingly senior investigative and managerial positions, including Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Criminal Matters Branch. Most recently, he served as Interim Commissioner of Competition. In that role, he provided stewardship for the Bureau's continued investigation of and litigation over significant merger cases, deceptive marketing practices and other important criminal and civil matters.

Mr. Pecman is an economist and holds a Master of Arts from McMaster University. He represents the Bureau on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Competition Committee and in the Steering Group of the International Competition Network.
