John Thomas Financial CEO Thomas Belesis Appointed Special Advisor to WAFUNIF (World Association of Former United Nations Internes and Fellows)

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2012) -  John Thomas Financial, an independent broker/dealer and investment-banking firm located in New York City's financial district, is proud to announce today that CEO Thomas Belesis has been named Special Advisor to WAFUNIF (World Association of Former United Nations Internes and Fellows). WAFUNIF is an alumni organization and an Official United Nations Peace Messenger dedicated to the dissemination of United Nations' ideals and highlighting its capacities in the realm of international affairs. The organization is one of the U.N.'s oldest institutions and has served to foster ongoing communication with countless U.N. alumni for over 50 years.

As Special Advisor, Mr. Belesis will harness his extensive knowledge of the international financial and socioeconomic landscape to support the ongoing WAFUNIF mission and consult on special projects. WAFUNIF is a U.N.-sanctioned Non-Governmental Organization that reports to The Economic and Social Council of the U.N. Mr. Belesis was appointed Special Advisor to WAFUNIF by the organization's President, Dr. Ibne Hassan.

Mr. Belesis serves as Vice President and Chairman of the Board of the Global Millennium Development Foundation (GMDF), which established a strategic partnership with WAFUNIF earlier this year. He will be providing a range of counsel and assistance to WAFUNIF as Chairman of the GMDF, a non-governmental organization focused on providing private sector resources to the international NGO community working to achieve the U.N.'s development goals from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS.

"Mr. Belesis and the GMDF are already providing critical resources to help ensure that WAFUNIF fulfills its important mission to connect and engage U.N. alumni around the world," states Dr. Ibne Hassan, President of WAFUNIF. "Mr. Belesis' wide range of experience in the arenas of business, politics and policy around the world will be of great benefit to our efforts to expand the reach of our programs."

"The private sector plays an increasingly important role in supporting efforts that were once considered to be the responsibility of governments. By cooperating with non-governmental organizations, the U.N. and government entities, we hope to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of existing initiatives while developing new opportunities for success for WAFUNIF and other groups affiliated with the United Nations system," said Mr. Belesis.

Mr. Belesis regularly collaborates with world leaders on global energy and sustainability issues as a member of the Board of Trustees of the New York Institute of Energy and Water and an Executive Board Member of the World Energy Forum.
