John Tory Repeating McGuinty Mistakes in Health

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 19, 2007) - Once again, John Tory is looking and sounding a lot like Dalton McGuinty. Today, Tory promised to continue the McGuinty tradition of steering public dollars into private profit.

Over the last four years working families have seen:

More private primary care clinics like Cleveland Clinic Canada (http://www.clevelandcliniccanada.com/), which offers "executive" health care and referrals for $2500, and the Health for Life Medical Centre (http://www.healthforlifemedicalcentre.ca/) in Kingston, which is marketed to the 40-plus and charges a "wellness fee" of $2500.

More private cancer clinics like the Provis Infusion Clinic (http://www.provis.ca/provisindex.htm), which offers IV cancer drugs to those who can afford price tags of $30,000 or more, and Medicor (http://www.medicorcancer.com/DCAtherapy.html) which is now offering to prescribe medications "off-label" to cancer patients - for a fee.

More private hospitals. Despite a 2003 promise to stop private care Dalton McGuinty has announced over 30 more privately financed, profit-driven hospital projects (http://www.infrastructureontario.ca/en/projects/index.asp). These projects have been shown to cost more than 40% more than publicly-financed hospitals.

Ontario's first privatized emergency room. Last summer the province allowed a Cambridge hospital to hire a private company called "Med Emerg" to run its emergency room.

Only Howard Hampton and Ontario's NDP are committed to affordable reliable public health care.
