John Travolta to Host Astronaut Buzz Aldrin's New Charity Gala

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL--(Marketwired - Apr 24, 2015) - We've Got Chills. They're Multiplying! John Travolta will join legendary Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin at a gala to launch Aldrin's new educational nonprofit, ShareSpace Foundation (SSF), and celebrate the Apollo 11 anniversary on July 18, 2015 at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida!

The black-tie affair will include a number of astronauts, reception, dinner and an intimate discussion about the iconic Apollo 11 mission. Guests will dine under a restored Apollo Saturn V rocket, one of only three still remaining in the world, and have access to an Apollo 11 auction to benefit children and education.

"We are excited to have two iconic legends celebrate both the first moon landing mission and the launch of ShareSpace Foundation," said SSF Executive Director Linn LeBlanc. "Both Aldrin and Travolta are aviators, advocates for space travel and have danced for millions of people (Travolta with Saturday Night Fever and Grease; Aldrin on Dancing with the Stars). I'm not sure if they will be dancing at the gala, but guests can look forward to some extra surprises from these stars!"

SSF's mission is to ignite children's passion for science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) so that children may develop a lifelong, life-changing love for, and potentially a career in, STEAM.

"Thinking about this upcoming Apollo 11 anniversary, I am still in awe by the fact that I walked on the moon," said SSF President Aldrin. "That awe in me, and in each of us, must be the engine of future achievement. That's what ShareSpace is about. That's what this gala is about -- inspiring the next generations to be creative, imaginative, and above all innovative."

Tickets and sponsorships are available at www.sharespace.org/ssf-gala or 321-783-6836. Ticket costs, over fair market value, should be considered a tax-deductible donation.

SSF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which addresses science literacy by delivering hands-on activities, inspirational messages and Innovation Kits to children. www.ShareSpace.org.

Aldrin was selected by NASA in 1963, he made his first space flight with Jim Lovell on Gemini 12. On July 20, 1969, Aldrin and Neil Armstrong became the first two humans to set foot on another world, when they made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk.
