After the Early Bird deadline, the entry fee is $250 per team and $150 for all-student teams. The final deadline to enter is Saturday, June 14, when all teams must submit a three-page executive summary.

"Take the first step," said Bob Cart, CEO of GreenVolts, winner of the 2006 Renewable Energy Award and 2007 Alumni Award. "No matter how crazy the idea or daunting the hurdle, take that first step and the second will follow."

Michael Murray, president of Lucid Design Group, the 2007 Smart Power Winner, said of his competition experience, "The Clean Tech Open is a fabulous opportunity that opens doors to investors and experienced professionals in legal, finance and other areas. The CTO may be the most important thing to do while a startup."

The Clean Tech Open offers teams six categories of clean tech in which to enter. Selected finalists will attend a series of Summer Workshops that educate teams about writing a business plan, pitching to venture capitalists, designing a marketing strategy and obtaining legal advice for their businesses. After submitting a business plan, all finalist teams present to a panel of judges, who then pick one winner for each of the six categories. Winners are announced at the end of October and are awarded a "Start-Up-in-a-Box" worth $100,000. Prizes include $50,000 in cash, office space for a year, legal advising for a year, and a suite of other prizes donated by the Clean Tech Open's In-Kind Sponsors.
