MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 17, 2012) - Back to school! Team up with your children! The Run This Way team is proud to announce the second edition of the race for Non-violence in Saint-Lazare, Sunday, September 9. Funds raised by the event will help to support the 2012 Run This Way program in schools.
The Run This Way project is a violence prevention program for schools. The program was initiated in 2011 by the Humanist Network. On the first edition, 12,000 students across Quebec ran and participated in awareness workshops. Thanks to World Without Wars and Without Violence, an international organization recognized by the UN, the program has been implemented in other countries. In 2011, 5,000 students from schools in France, Argentina, Ireland, Ecuador, the Mexico and the United States also participated. In Vaudreuil-Soulanges more than a 1,000 students ran.
There is no registration fee for a school to implement the Run This Way program. Schools teachers can register now online at: www.runthisway.ca
Schools will receive the Run This Way activity booklet for classrooms. The activities propose trust and cooperation work for students where teachers can implement these programs in class at the beginning of the school year. The activities are designed to support a classroom environment for peace and non- violence.
From September 21 (International Day of peace) to October 10 (2 October International Day of Non- violence), schools across the province and from other countries will organize races of 1 km to 2 kms with students and the communities to promote peace and non-violence. Students from the province and from Canada will receive the Run This Way for Nonviolence ribbons for their participation in collective worldwide action for peace. In 2011, the Run This Way team handed over 10,000 ribbons to students across Quebec who participated in race.
