Join the Mayor of Whoville at the Union Rescue Mission Saturday, November 22
Annual Thanksgiving Street Festival 2008
LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 13, 2008) -
WHAT: Union Rescue Mission (URM) CEO Andy Bales will be joined by 300
volunteers and the Mayor of Whoville from Twentieth Century Fox
Home Entertainment's "Horton Hears A Who!" to serve a
Thanksgiving Meal, Whoville style, to more than 3,500 homeless
men, women & children on Skid Row this holiday season.
WHO: Union Rescue Mission on San Pedro Street will be transformed
into Whoville, a community right out of the hit animated film
"Horton Hears A Who!" This year's festival will feature a
delicious Thanksgiving meal, live entertainment, lots of
give-a-ways and a Whoville themed Kid Zone that's sure to be a
big hit with children and adults alike.
WHEN: Saturday, November 22, 2008. Cooking begins on the street in
front of URM at 1:30 a.m. (frying turkeys). The festival is open
to the Skid Row community from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Union Rescue Mission/Whoville @ 545 South San Pedro Street,
Los Angeles California 90013 (Between 5th & 6th Street on
San Pedro Street).
WHY: Union Rescue Mission along with Twentieth Century Fox
Entertainment, KJLH Radio and the Magic Johnson Foundation will
continue to bring people together as long as there is a need to
bring hope and healing to the men, women and children of Skid
Row who feel they have been forgotten.
Note: The visuals of 15 turkey fryers cooking 160 turkeys in the middle of
the night for the homeless will be a great photo & film opportunity. Also,
the Mayor of Whoville & the Whoville themed Kid Zone. A very different
Thanksgiving experience for everyone -- big and small!
